Misinformation Contrary to Disinformation

A short post but still important and relevant, especially in today's political climate.

Some individuals may confuse misinformation with disinformation. They are not at all similar—from a "truth perspective," they are on opposite ends. Misinformation is the unintentional dissemination of false information without any intention to harm. However, disinformation can be construed as the opposite, intentionally spreading information with the object of misleading others to confuse fact from fiction.

Misinformation versue Disinformation

With cable news being unregulated and the trend toward not separating fact from fiction on many social media profiles, it's essential to use critical thinking and curiosity when consuming information in public, on cable news programs, and social media. Misinformation is inadvertent, and disinformation is a deliberate attempt to confuse fact and fiction.

Identifying and combating the spread of misinformation and disinformation is a significant challenge in the increasingly complex information landscape of the 21st century.
